Donate through the Telethon

Each year, a telethon is held during the Canadian Women’s Curling Championship, the Scotties Tournament of Hearts. Last year’s telethon on February 18, 2007, set a record, with over $140,000 donated. Thank you to all who made this Telethon a tremendous success. This year’s Telethon is on February 17, 2008, live on TSN.

The Curling Club Challenge

The third annual curling club challenge will be held during the Sandra Schmirler Foundation Telethon. The four curling clubs with the largest contributions (for equity, based on club size which is calculated by the total donation divided by the number of sheets of ice) will receive pairs of tickets to the 2009 major curling events courtesy of the CCA (a pair to the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, Tim Hortons Brier & Ford Women’s World Championships) and curling supplies courtesy of Olson Curling Supplies and Team Kleibrink.

We are pleased to announce last year’s winners, as follows:

  1. First ranked club:
Tilley Curling Club (a two-sheet club) raised an impressive $8,200.
  2. Second ranked club:
    Vancouver Curling Club
  3. Honourable mention:
    Dartmouth Curling Club

Congratulations to all the Clubs that participated.

Attend a Season of Champions event and donate

Organize your own fundraising event

  1. Organize a golf tournament: There are currently six locations holding golf tournaments in support of the Foundation (raising over $100,000 last year).
    • Sandra Schmirler Golf Classic - Thornhill, Ontario
    • Sandra Schmirler Manitoba Golf Classic - St. Andrews
    • CTV Sandra Schmirler Golf Classic - Regina
    • Sandra Schmirler Golf Classic East - Fox Harb'r, Nova Scotia
    • TSN Memorial Golf Tournament - Toronto
    • Value Drug Mart Golf Tournament - Edmonton
A big thank you to the Golf Tournament committees for their hard work.
Check out the fundraising events page of this site for more information. If you have an interest in holding a tournament, please contact the Foundation at
    contact@sandraschmirler.org
  2. Create a fundraiser at your curling club: Looking for fundraising ideas? The Sandra Schmirler Foundation would like to help!

Curling Clubs can donate to the Foundation through loonie and toonie collections, shoot for the button contests and at open houses. Other suggested activities include: learn to curl clinics, the Foundation “Gold Medal” curling camps, short-house matches, mini bonspiels, pro-am events, curl-a-thons, receptions, banquets and silent and live auctions.

For more significant fundraising activities, a club can create projects that will raise funds for both the Sandra Schmirler Foundation and their local club initiatives. The split is 50/50, but the split and the club cause (e.g. a roof fund or new ice scraper) must be publicized through all promotional materials.
