The 2007 Kurl for Kids Celebrity Bonspiel

The 2007 Kurl for Kids Celebrity Bonspiel was a huge success, raising over $38,000 in the first year supporting The Sandra Schmirler Foundation.

The host club was the Tam Heather Curling and Tennis Club with the Delta Toronto East Hotel acting as host hotel.

The Top Fundraiser, Janine Good, raised over $3500 and earned the right to have first pick of the Celebrity Skips, chosing Olympic Gold Medalist Mark Nichols. For her efforts Janine also received a Via Rail travel package for four to Ottawa and rooms at the Delta Ottawa Hotel.

The Main Event Champions were skipped by former Canadian Mixed Champion Chris Johnson from Northern Ontario. They defeated Ontario’s Mark Bice in an exciting final.

The second Battle of the Sexes saw the Ladies gain revenge for last year loss as the team rode roughshod over the men. The ladies team consisted of skip Sandy Comeau (NB), Brenda Nicholls (QUE), Cheryl Morgan (QUE) and Hailey Birnie (Y/NWT). The overwhelmed men’s squad was led by Mark Kehoe (NS), with Art Lobel (ON), Louis Biron (QUE) and Pierre Fraser (NB) rounding out the rest of the team.

Other Celebrity Skips who attended included Olympic Gold Medalist Mark Nichols, Olympic Silver Medalist and Brier Champion Don Bartlett, World Champions Mary-Ann Arsenault and Kent Carstairs plus 28 other current or former Provincial Champions and Finalists!

The 19th Annual Kurl for Kids Celebrity Bonspiel will be played on Easter Weekend March 20-22, 2008. For more information on the event contact either Chair Dave Wylie at takeout@sympatico.ca or Paul Wadland at paulwadland@corplogoware.com
